Wesley is generally quite a patient individual. He is meticulous and careful; he holds his work to the highest standard and often will go beyond what is required of him. He is quite observant and has his feet quite firmly grounded in the here and now. He reads people easily and pays more attention than it might seem that he does. In general he is a rather optimistic person who prefers to go with the flow rather than make a lot of plans. Still he is a quick thinker and deals well with crisis situations. He thinks easily on his feet, has no problem making snap decisions when it becomes necessary and does not have issues with taking risks. One of his most perplexing qualities is his ability to combine spontaneity with logic and move smoothly from one mode to the other.
He has the soul of a gambler, and a mind that processes risk and factors like no other. In fact, the money he makes playing the market is far more responsible for the finer things in his life than the job that is his passion. He comes off initially as a very sober man, but his eyes show the humor within. Wes is slow often to speak, although once he gets going, and feels at ease he converses with people easily. He is crafty and often comes off as critical. He can be relentless in the pursuit of something he wants or wants to know.
Wes is a very passionate person both personally and professionally. He has a strong idealistic streak and tends to get fired up when he feels slighted. He has a tendency to defend his principles with ardor and at great length when that happens. He has a strong sense of family and adores children, and not just his own. He has an easy charming manner when he allows it free reign and has never lacked for admirers, however some of them have been from afar as there is an aura about him that is charming yet strangely (and intriguingly) distant.

- Aura Reading: (20 Points) [+1 Power] A White re’em can sense whether someone is injured or ill by looking at their aura. This does not show mental or behavioral illnesses.
- Empathy: (20 Points) [+1 Power] This power allows the re’em to read not only the emotions of another person, but whether said person has any sort of mental illness.
- Drawing: (30 Points) [+2 Power] Where a person seeking care has toxins in his system, whether from poisoning or just from exposure to unhealthy things, this power allows the re’em to draw the toxins from their body. The more harmful the toxins, the more likely the re’em will be left ill herself for a period of time.
- Mending: (40 Points) [+2 Power] This power allows the re’em to close wounds. The larger the wound, the more difficult it is to close, and the worse the scar. Some wounds may not be able to be fully closed, but enough mending may be done to keep the injured party from dying or losing a limb. Where the wound is life threatening or involves preventing amputation, the re’em will likely have to sleep for several days to recuperate.

Wesley's father was pushing eighty by the time he finally met his mate. He had been waiting for so long without even the slightest spark that he would have figured himself gay if he'd actually had any leanings in that direction either. As a Re'em he thankfully aged slower than a human would and still looked to be an attractive man in his early fifties. A noted Horticulturist he worked in the Oxford Botanic Garden. Imagine his surprise when after years of avoiding his own kind for the most part his mate presented herself in front of him and would not leave. Melisande was a Rhodes Scholar from University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and had taken on an apprenticeship in the Garden as part of her studies. Otherwise the two might never have met. She was from an upper middle class background, the first person in her family, male or female to have actually attended college. But she came from a well respected family among the fairly spread out elusive species. Though the connection the pair had was not in any way metaphysical it was so instant and such a deep connection that neither was willing or able to ignore it. They had a rather short courtship. Meeting in September when she started her rotation in his department and married by Christmas, much to the shock and dismay of their Melisande's family, although she was at least doing her duty and marrying another of their species they couldn't understand why she would tie herself to a crotchety old man. She quickly finished her degree and went to work along side him specializing in the Orchid house where they'd originally met.
Four years later they welcomed their first child into the world one warm spring morning. Wesley was from the beginning a rather exceptional child. He learned quickly and remembered everything that he read. Once enrolled in school he breezed through as if it was nothing more difficult than breathing. It was a good thing that he was a rather self contained child as his parents really were a perfect match. They were both the type of people who had room in their lives for work and each other, and everything else seemed to fall by the wayside.
They were not the only Re'em family in England, or even in Oxford, but his father was not really the socializing type. Wes's father had really spent most of his adult life as a loner and hadn't formed the bonds that his mother had grown up with. Both of his parents trained him in the way of their people, for Wes this was probably the most energy and attention, he'd ever received from the reticent man whose blood flowed through his veins. It was a bonding experience that would always stay with him. And to be honest probably was what skewed Wes's view toward his father's color.
For Wes this was the first glimmer of his fascination with the preternatural. He threw himself into his studies, learning everything he could about their race and the magic that made it possible. What things to do what to avoid, there were no questions he wouldn't ask and often his questions would only bring confusion as the situation had either never come up, or just flat out never occurred to anyone as a possibility before. The year that he was thirteen was monumental for Wes, he was gearing up for his decision. The moment he would choose which color he would be, and his mother had announced that she was pregnant again. Although this time it seemed as though the pregnancy would not go quite as smoothly as the last one, and she was placed on bed rest at only five months in.
The day of his choosing was a tasteful affair, only his mother and father, her parents and a few family friends attended. He was fete'd as they considered proper and given gifts to advance his studies in his chosen color. However with his new found understanding and learning he noticed that his father was slowing down, considerably. He had never been completely hale, and was far older than his young vigorous wife and later on in the year, only a month before his baby sister was supposed to be born his father's body finally gave out. The loss of her love and mate caused his mother to go into labor early, but the child was far stronger than many had expected and survived. Once Anais was released from the hospital Meliasande, not able to take living in the house without her husband, took her children and fled home across the water to her parent's house in Hartford, Connecticut.
Wes was enrolled in Hartford Public High School and immediately threw himself back into his studies. His home life was a shambles. His mother was wasting away before their eyes, his grandparents who were not in the best of health were trying to help with the baby as best they could but a lot of the care was falling on the shoulders of a very confused young man who tried desperately to be everything everyone needed. Though as time went one he learned to juggle it all and to do it well. His grandparents passed when he was 17 and Anais was just about three. They had fallen asleep together one night and just not woken up. It was sad, but to Wes he was just happy that they'd gone together... however for his mother it was the last straw to an already broken emotional state. For the next year he watched his mother just fade away until her body finally gave out and one month after his eighteenth birthday, and three months before he was supposed to start college his mother passed away.
Wes was suddenly all alone in the world with his four year old sister. Fortunately ownership of his grandparent's house had passed to him as well as the bulk of their life insurance policies and savings. Taking a gamble he invested half of the money they had left him and used the other half to secure the services of a young woman as housekeeper and nanny. He threw himself into the Re'em community for help and was surprised as the help actually came. He finished out his final year of school and using the dividends from his rather wise investments along with the sale of his grandparents house he moved the three of them to a rather nice house in Boston, while he attended Harvard. Although he adored plants and thought that his parents work had been fascinating he wanted to study more than just the biology of plants, and needed to step away from anything that would remind him of them. He wanted to delve into the biology as well as the culture and social structure of preternatural beings so that was where he placed his focus. So much so that he continued to study it all the way through Graduate school and on to eventually teach the subject at Boston University.
Having a child around at such a young age did not give him a lot of chance to play around with relationships, but it did nothing to stop one night stands and close intimate friends. He just didn't have any interest in committing to something. Over time his intimate encounters became less and less often as people moved in and out of his life. A life that, to him, had fallen into quite the comfortable routine. He had his work and AJ, his friendship with Jaya and that was pretty much how he wanted it. But AJ was growing up, and Wes began to wonder what would happen when he didn't have someone else to care for, although he tried to keep it to just passing thoughts. AJ graduated from HS, at seventeen and while she could have taken advantage of her brother's job to go to college for free, she applied and was accepted to UMass Amherst. Wes wasn't exactly ready to lose his baby, but it was through her that Wes's life once again took a turn he'd never have expected. AJ made a couple of friends her first semester and even started to date, something that Wes would have preferred never happened but there really wasn't anything he could do about that. At least she had the grace and intelligence to keep it within the community. It was in the course of meeting several of her friends at a night club owned by one of their cousins that Wes met Lynn and fell instantly in love. Their relationship seemed perfect on the outside, but what he didn't know was that Lynn was already in love, with her cousin... the very man that his sister was currently dating.
AJ was actually the one that caught the pair cheating and told Wes. He was completely devastated but even more so when Lynn came to him and admitted that she was pregnant with Wesley's child but that she intended on raising it with her cousin and lover. Livid and hurt he was crueler than he'd ever been to another living being and threw her out of his house intending to never see her again. Until he got a call from Lynn's lover, late one night, she had gone into early labor and things were not looking well. He rushed down to the hospital and arrived in time to see his daughter born, but also to find out that Lynn had not survived the birth. He later found out that her family had disowned her for running off with her cousin and would have nothing to do with either of them. Shay knew that the child was not his and couldn't even deal with the loss of his love let alone a baby, so after a quick blood test confirming that he was the father, Wes took his daughter home. It has been four and a half years since then, his daughter is growing every day, his life is peaceful and finally his heart has healed. There will always be scars, but he figures that just makes them all stronger in the long run.
